FAQ

1.  What is the cost to stay at Golden Oaks?
There are two components of cost to stay at Golden Oaks.  Rent is the first and it is set at $737 - $837/month.  The second is the charge for care.  This will vary based on the amount of care required.  For those paying privately, the cost will range from $2000-$4700/month.  If a resident was receiving assistance from the county and/or the state of Minnesota, the additional cost would range from $0-$600/month.

2What furniture can a resident bring?

A resident may bring as much furniture as can reasonably fit into their living space.  Golden Oaks urges that pictures and familiar personal objects be included, as it will help the new environment feel more like home from the first day.  A favorite chair or Lazy Boy is also encouraged.

3.  Should a resident's clothing be labeled?

While at Golden Oaks, it is recommended that clothing be labeled.  If you wish, Golden Oaks staff will label the clothing once the resident arrives.

4.  What extra costs could a resident incur while at Golden Oaks?

Certain items, which are at the resident's discretion, may cost extra.  Some county/state/or federal programs may cover some extra items (i.e., food supplements, incontinence supplies, etc.) Those items that would result in extra cost include beautician services, massage therapy, private phone and private newspaper.  Such items can be arranged through the Administrator or the Director of Nursing.

5.  When should a resident's family contact St. Louis County Social Services for financial assistance?

If an individual's assets are around $25,000 or less, it is time to contact the County.  In the case of a married couple the amount is around $50,000.  It is important to do this promptly, as in most cases there is a waiting list to be placed on certain programs.  Also the process takes a minimum of two months to complete.  Charles Miller, The Administrator at Golden Oaks is available to help in this area.

6.  Under what circumstances may a resident need to move out of Golden Oaks?

When a resident moves into Golden Oaks it is our hope they can stay here for the rest of their life. Additionally, a resident should at least be able to participate in activities. However, if the resident is a threat to themselves or others, or is disruptive to the other clients, another location will have to be arranged.

7.  What should I do about my valuables?

It is recommended that family members keep any valuable items you own.  If you wish to have cash at Golden Oaks, it can be held for you in the Administration Office.
